By Jay Wittner November 30, 2020

Traffic at outlet malls is recovering much faster than at traditional shopping malls. Shoppers prefer the lower density approach of outlet malls with their wide outdoor walkways & common areas. New outlet malls are also sized right often running between 350,000 & 400,000 sq ft. Outlet malls outperform alternatives in that they represent only about 1% of retail space but generate about 10% of retail sales. Through late September, foot traffic at traditional malls was off 33% while traffic at outlet malls was only off by 6%.
